Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani was born in a small town outside of Milan Italy. He came from a fairly poor family. He wanted to become a doctor however left his medical studies to pursue a career in fashion. He started  working in a fashion retail store & became part of the window display team. His interest in fashion started at an early age & he launched his 1st men’s store in 1975 & had 200 stores worldwide by the end of 1990.

His clothes were revolutionary at the time, introducing a more natural fit & colours. Richard Gere wore Giorgio Armani clothes in the movie American Gigalo in 1989. Giorgio Armani provided some of the wardrobe for the series Miami Vice from 1984 to 1989 which was worn by Don Johnson.

Giorgio Armani is known as one of fashion’s most distinguished icons.

He has dressed many many actors for the red carpet like Michelle Pfeiffer, Jodie Foster, John Travolta, Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon, Sophia Loren, Katy Perry, Rianna, Adele, Kate Hudson, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga & Beyonce Knowels to name just a few.

Giorgio Armani started in fragrance in 1981 with woman’s fragrance & continues to launch beautiful scents for men & women.

Armani Code a oriental/spicy fragrance for men was launched in 2004 & is still going strong this year of 2017. I like to describe it as a classic & masculine fragrance & love the dry down (base note) of leather, tobacco & tonka beans. It opens with bergamot & lemon & the heart has star anise, olive blossom & guaiac wood. I haven’t seen olive blossom in many fragrances which makes it different. This a great fragrance for autumn & winter & date night events or if you enjoy a strong fragrance all year round. This fragrance has lasting power longer than expected a good 5 to 6 hours.

There have been many versions of Code fragrances for both men & women over the years, in fact about 14 versions.

Armani Code Profumo again an oriental/spicy fragrance for men was launched in 2016 but with different more deeper ingredients. It opens with green mandarin, green apple & cardamon & the heart has orange blossom, lavender & nutmeg. The dry down or base of the fragrance is tonka bean, amber & leather. This fragrance deeper, richer & creamier & is almost gourmandy in a way. I recommend that you wear this in the cooler months as it can only be described as warm.

So what are we going to do in spring & summer. I am excited to share with you Armani Code Colonia an aromatic/fougere fragrance has just launched in 2nd half 2017.  It opens with a fresh & crispy blast of bergamot, mandarin & pink pepper. The dry down (base notes) brings out the warmth of tonka bean, amber wood & hiliotrope feel. It is sensual, charming & at the same time has a relaxed & casual feel perfect for spring/summer.

The good news is both men & women can wear it, so I suggest you guys should hide it away from your partner.

I love Code & Code Colonia & like Code Profumo, there is a place & time for you to own all 3 of them.

Hands on Retreat

I recently had the privilege of a 3 hours relaxing treatments at Hands on Retreat. Its like visiting a secret garden a stone through away from Hyde Park. I was extremely excited that this spa is not the usual type of spa, the setting is really beautiful with lovely trees, plants, bird life & even a very friendly chicken. This spa can only be describes as a country style spa with a very rustic feel &  interesting art.

We received a neck, shoulder & head massage followed by a foot & leg massage & then a full body hot stone massage. All I can say is if you are looking for a relaxing session with friends or with your loved one this is the place to visit. You will really feel like you are away from the hustle & bustle of Johannesburg.

The staff are extremely discreet & I must compliment them as the service was fantastic. They are warm, friendly & welcoming.

We ended our session with a lovely high tea, delicious wraps, pastries, cake & coffee, a great way to end a beautiful session with friends. If you are looking for a relaxing time not far from home, I highly recommend you visit the Hands on Retreat.

It’s a boutique retreat & spa, a great place for a romantic night away. You will find them at 4 Argyle Ave, Craighall, Johannesburg. You can contact them on 011 326 3181 or visit their website

We were given a beautiful African print pair of slippers to take home which was a lovely touch to the end of the special spoil.
